So worth the canker sores...

I didn't plant a garden this year because I didn't feel like it. Seriously that is my only reason. Turns out it was the perfect year to not plant because we've had so many hail storms that we probably would have needed to re-plant multiple times. It's not often that laziness pays off...so I'm going to savor this one for a while.

Of course I have been suffering from a lack of garden tomatoes this August so I was giddy over these that my grandpa brought from his garden in Idaho.

Grandpa E's tomatoes

These are Early Girls which is my favorite variety. Grandpa can somehow get them to grow bigger than I can but the size isn't what matters to me. What I love is the highly acidic tang you get when you slice them and eat them with nothing but a little salt and pepper.

And boy howdy do I love me some acid.

OK - we're definitely related. I love that! Throw in some cottage cheese, and I am in absolute heaven.

Grandpa's Beefsteaks are what always amaze me. Those things are HUMONGOUS!!!

Taste of Home mag had a tomato sandwich where you spread your tomato with a sauce, dip both sides in breadcrumbs, and fry it up baby. It looked pretty dang good, but when you get the first fruit from the vine, nothing is better than just the fruit.

Yum! Yes, with the crazy hailstorms, this was probably the year not to plant. Good thing you have a tomato supplier!
