A new tradition

On Tuesday we hosted our first annual First Day of Summer Ice Cream Party. The weather was perfect, the homemade ice cream was copious, and the childrens' faces were covered with chocolate. It was everything a summer party should be, if I do say so myself.

The conversation lasted until well past dark and N8tron and I have already started brainstorming lighting options for our next party. I also learned that I seriously overestimated the amount of ice cream we would need. We have tons of it left in our deep freeze which I'm not about to pretend is necessarily a bad thing. I wasn't able to take a picture of any of the ice cream (I was too busy scooping cones for the kids), but it was all served out of bread pans. We filled the large white dishes with ice and put one bread pan in each dish. It worked well as long as we kept an eye on it and rotated the flavors whenever they got a bit too melty.

At the end of the night each family went home with a tiny jar of fudge sauce. Do you see the carafe full of it in the first picture? Yeah, that's still sitting my fridge completely full because, you know, we decided to make a triple batch. Again...not saying that's a bad thing.

Many thanks to all of our friends who joined us, to Jen for making a long trek to come help me, and to the lovely ladies who helped me with the dishes when the night was through! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Did you do anything to celebrate the first day of summer? Would you like to come over for some ice cream?

You really need to live closer. This whole 1,000 miles apart thing isn't working out for me and my need for ice cream and hanging out.

My daughter's birthday is June 21 so we'll be having a first day of summer party for many years to come (we just won't call it that, of course).

I would love nothing more than to come over for some ice cream! What a wonderful party! What I wouldn't give to live closer so I could attend one of your beautiful parties.

And I could totally help you with that carafe of hot fudge. Good heavens, I've never seen anything so brilliant.

You are so fun! What a great idea! I wish I lived closer too, so we could hang out and I could help you eat that ice cream! ;)

Wish I lived closer - because I might come help you get rid of that vat of chocolate fudge topping and ice cream. Then again, we haven't really met in real life before -- so that might be awkward. Maybe if I brought my sister? :)

Seriously with parties like that I totally want to come live near you...but not in a stalker/serial killer kinda way:-) LOL! This looks like the best kind of summer party to come too. Extra carafe full of fudge sauce in the fridge...cha ching!!!! I'm thinking you made extra for a good reason!!!

I'm so lucky to have been able to go! It was so awesome and I'm still thinking about the mint...do you give out your recipes? Also, how did I miss the cinnamon??? Maybe since there's so much left over we'll have to have round 2. :)

It was a great night and you are an amazing hostess.

We had our party last night and the spread looks pretty similar. I love summer parties! If we ever live close, we can totally collaborate next time.

Yes, this is just perfection. Brilliant. Pinning, for sure. I wish I had your follow-through. I'm much too lazy.

You and Jen did a fan-freakin-tastic job. The ice-cream was delish and everything looked so summer-y. In hindsight I should have tried a small serving of every kind. Next year.
