Handmade Holiday: My Favorite

Remember when I posted my inspiration for embroidery projects ages ago? Well here is the result of that inspiration:

My niece's name in embroidery hoops!

Here was my thought process for coming up with this project:
:: Baby E. is sharing a room with her brother and needs a little something to girlie up her room.
:: I wanted a variation on the traditional wooden letter name in nurseries.
:: My sister-in-law gave me this book ages ago and I've been eager to try some embroidery! I can now say I am quite proficient at making french knots.

Project Details:
Fabric: Erin McMorris Weekends
Embroidery Floss: DMC
Stitches used: French knot, Backstitch, Split stitch, Stem stitch
I also used Heat n' Bond to affix the pink letters to the printed fabric.

If I did this project again I think I'd leave out the blue back-stitching, otherwise I love it! Definitely my current favorite handmade gift.

Also, check out this awesome variation that Jessica made. I love the idea of mounting it on a board to create dimension.

This is great! I love it and I love the blue stitching and the knots. I wish I could do something like this, but I don't even know where to start. Good job!

Ok, seriously? Could you please stop putting the rest of us to shame?? You cook, knit, make awesome play kitchen's, sew etc. etc. etc. ... and now you embroider?! You are my hero.

I think I could embroider. . . . I'm feeling so inspired! My new goal: to be a crafting master. One craft at a time, I suppose. . . .

Embroidery is one of my very favorites, and I love that idea. I love the Weekend collection too, and I love that hoop art idea. I am totally doing that when I redo my girls' rooms.

Oh Miranda, I have been absent for just a week and I have returned to thirteen posts next to your name in my reader! I have made myself a coffee and settled down for a wonderful dose of inspiration and of course you have not disappointed with the very first one! I adore the colours and the stitching is just gorgeous - a certain starred one for the future.
