Roy G. Biv

When I first moved to Idaho one question weighed heavily on my mind. Who exactly am I going to plan parties with? I'm not ashamed of my priorities people. Luckily, I have found a kindred spirit in my friend Kim. When it comes to parties she knows how to dream big, go overboard, and pull off at least 75% of the brilliant ideas at least 5 minutes before the guests walk in the door. Even better? Kim doesn't bat an eye when I tactlessly appoint myself as party planning committee chairperson as quickly as she can mention an upcoming soirée.

Observe this recent conversation between the two of us:

Kim: So, Brynlee decided she wants a rainbow party for her birthday and..
Me: Okay. Here's what I'm thinking. We make a rainbow cake and you can make those streamers that are....

And then like, half an hour later I shut up.

For this particular party, Kim did all of the leg work. Her daughter decided on the theme and helped her mom make most of the decorations. I made the cake (recipe here) and provided moral support as Kim took four hours
to hang all of the rainbow colored, fringed, twisted, streamers. (You know those moments when you realize that you've taken way too long working on something that holds very little real significance but you're doing it for your kid and you realize that is like, the essence of motherhood? It was like that.)

Get all of the party details right here and try to argue that this isn't the kind of birthday party that dreams are made of.

You can bet I'm breathing easier now that my prayers have been answered and I have found a party planning buddy. Thanks for letting me play along, Kim! Let's do it again soon.

Happy Monday Everyone!

I love that cake, and your picture turned out much better than mine since mine was at night. Boo.
Everything looks lovely! And I love, and second your comment about the essence of motherhood. :)
Wish I had a local party-planning buddy...
